Claims Supported by This Source

  1. The Consumer Hotline 188 directs you to nearby consumer affairs centers or consumer consultation counters established by local public entities.
  2. By entering your postal code, it directs you to the nearest municipal or prefectural consumer consultation counter. It is not based on the telephone area code.
  3. Consultation is free. Call charges apply from the moment you are connected to the consultation counter. Call charges (nationwide flat rate) are: landline 8.5 yen (9.35 yen incl. tax) per 180 seconds, mobile phone 10 yen (11 yen incl. tax) per 20 seconds, public phone 10 yen (tax incl.) per 40 seconds. Rates may vary depending on your contract plan, and separate Navi Dial call charges will be incurred even with flat-rate calling services.
  4. Before connecting to the consultation counter, a guidance message about the charges will be played, and call charges will start after the guidance.
  5. If the line is busy, call the National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan's backup consultation at 03-3446-0999 (reception hours: weekdays 10:00–16:00). On weekends and public holidays, if consumer affairs centers are closed, the National Consumer Affairs Center provides support. It is available in principle every day, except for facility inspection days and the New Year holidays.
  6. 188 directs you to the nearest consumer consultation counter; it does not connect to the Consumer Affairs Agency.
  7. They warn people to be cautious of fake postcards pretending to be from the National Consumer Affairs Center of Japan and the Consumer Affairs Agency.

How to read the verification levels. "Read Through" means the source was read in its entirety. "Bibliography & Abstract Read" means the bibliographic information and abstract were confirmed. "Via Course Material" means the source was referenced through the textbook or course text. The "Text Hash" is the SHA-256 of the main text from the publisher's page, excluding tags and whitespace, used to detect if the source has been modified.
