Editorial rules
Some things do not bend, whoever we are dealing with. The material is made for learning, never to promote the other party. That line is why material can be entrusted to us safely.
- Holders named
- Material you lend us is credited, at every place it appears, to its holder and photographer.
- Editorial independence
- NOMISMA decides how the history is interpreted. A fact unfavourable to the other party is written if it is a fact.
- Real coins only
- Only photographs of real specimens.
- Popular claims
- What is not settled is written as not settled.
About NOMISMA itself
The operating company, Convoy Switch Inc., holds a secondhand goods dealer permit (Fukuoka Prefectural Public Safety Commission No. 901032010105). Mitsuru Hayama, who runs NOMISMA, buys and sells coins at this company. Someone on the selling side is making the teaching material for monetary history — we say that first. Then we give numbers you can check.
- The photographs of the 436 coins, banknotes and other objects shown here come from 357 sources, and each one carries its source and licence.
- Links leaving NOMISMA go to sources (holders and licences) and to the public resources listed below.
We make one promise only: when an error comes to light, we correct it and leave the date. We promise nothing about intentions — a reader has no way to check those.

Before getting in touch, the best thing is to look at the material we make. The first chapters of the money histories by country, among others, are free to read.
