5 Ryang Silver (Year 501 of the Dynasty)
1892 ・ silver ・ 19th century ・ Jeonhwanguk (Incheon)

A large silver coin first machine-struck in 1892 (Year 501 of the Joseon Dynasty) at the Jeonhwanguk mint in Incheon. The New Currency Issuance Ordinance of 1894 established this 5-yang silver coin as the standard currency. The unit 'yang' (両) was engraved on the coin's face, transferring the traditional denomination hierarchy of the Sangpyeong Tongbo—kwan, yang, jeon, and mun—onto a Western-style silver coin.
