50 Ruble Assignat
18th–19th centuries ・ paper ・ 18th century ・ Assignat Bank

A high-denomination 50-ruble note. A double-headed eagle is printed on the large, white paper. In 1839, with the establishment of the silver standard, the value of the paper money was fixed at 3.5 paper rubles to 1 silver ruble. In 1843, the Assignats were replaced by State Credit Notes, bringing their era to a close. The higher the denomination, the greater the pain of its depreciation.
