One-yen silver coin (dragon)

A silver coin issued under the New Currency Act for foreign trade. The fineness is 90 per cent silver, the weight 26.96 grams. The large type of the new one-yen silver, begun in the seventh year of Meiji, is 38.6 millimetres across. The dragon drawn by Kanō Natsuo was thought highly of on the British side as well, and it came to be engraved in Japan. It circulated in Taiwan, Korea and China too.
