Nanryō nishu gin (two-shu silver)

A counted silver coin begun under Tanuma Okitsugu in the ninth year of Meiwa. The face is cut with 'eight pieces of nanryō exchange for one ryō of koban': a silver coin, yet its face value is stated in the units of gold. The fineness is 98 per cent, and the standard weight 2 monme 7 bu, about 10.1 grams. The Kansei reforms halted it for a time, and casting began again in the twelfth year of Kansei.
