1 Ruble of Peter I

For 170 years from 1535, the ruble was a unit of account, not a physical coin. In 1704, under Peter's reforms, it was finally struck as a silver coin. This particular piece was struck in 1723 and features the emperor's bust on the obverse and a cruciform monogram of four 'П's on the reverse. The machine-struck round silver coin was a planchet of nearly the same weight as a thaler.
