A gold-backed currency issued for reconstruction by a regime that had attempted to abolish money. The design features a peasant sowing seeds in a field; in place of the portraits of rulers that had appeared on imperial coinage, a working person stood on the face of the coin. Gold coins with the same design were struck again in the 1970s, and are not distinguished by their year. What is being discussed here is the design itself, not the provenance of an individual piece.
