George III Sovereign 1817 (Obverse/Reverse in separate files)

The Archive notes that by 1814, Nathan was in a position to handle British government contracts to purchase gold coin and transport it to Wellington's army on the continent. Purchases in Paris, contracts in London, the house in Frankfurt. A chronology states that the five brothers supplied gold to the army throughout the period before and after the Battle of Waterloo. The transported gold was settled in the ledgers under the "Account of Bullion and Specie". This is a British gold coin that would have been on that side of the account.
