A 400 troy ounce gold bar of 995.5 fineness, exhibited at the National Bank of Poland Money Centre in Warsaw. Photographed in 2016. It is placed in an acrylic case in a room lined with safe deposit box doors. The archive page notes that standard bars for the market are cast with a purity of 995 thousandths or more, while gold coins of 900 or 916.7 purity were melted down and recast into larger bars. Thousands of Sovereign, Eagle, and Napoleon gold coins were sold for cash and disappeared into the crucible. This is the shape of the exit from the furnace where coinage returns to bullion.
