Peace dollar

On the profile of Liberty in a crown of light, 'IN GOD WE TRVST' — the spelling cuts U as V. On the back an eagle rests on a rock, holding an olive branch, with the single word 'PEACE' at its feet. It is a Peace dollar dated 1921. While Europe suspended the gold standard and wore itself down in the First World War, America became the supplier of goods and of funds, and a country that had been a debtor before the war turned into the world's largest creditor after it. A silver coin cut with the name of peace, struck in the country where the world's gold had begun to gather — the leading player of the next age was quietly giving its name.
