Claims Supported by This Source

1. A poem in which the Heller, Pfennig, Dreier, Mattier, Mariengroschen, Fürstengroschen, Batzen, Dütchen, 10 Kreuzer, Schreckenberger, Guldenthaler, Reichsthaler, Goldgulden, Ducat, and then Gold, Silver, and Copper speak in turn. The small coins say, "The crucible has ruined me," the old Groschen says, "I am long since in the fire," and the Mariengroschen says, "I have become a silver cup."
2. The Reichsthaler says it now passes for "5 Thaler and 1 Ort (a quarter)," the Goldgulden for "almost 6 Thaler," the Ducat for "8 Thaler," and the Guldenthaler for "nearly 5 Gulden." The good old Thaler is "hoarded away." The Pfennig says it receives "a premium of 10 Groschen per Gulden."
3. Gold says, "With this, German money is scorned throughout the world, and everything becomes expensive. If we are not saved, it will get worse." Silver says, "It is a sin and a shame that Jews mint in Germany" (a contemporary trope of blame). Copper ends with, "If gold and silver leave, copper will take their place. What will happen when gold is made from copper?"
