Handed out on 2 October of the thirty-ninth year of Shōwa. Japan's first commemorative coin: 35 millimetres across, weight 20 grams, fineness 92.5 per cent silver. The design of Fuji and cherry blossom was made inside the Mint. The figure of 15 million pieces was settled on the reckoning of one per household, and on 2 October long queues formed at the exchange counters from daybreak.
