Silver sycee (8th year of Zhengde)
Ming, 1513 ・ silver ・ 16th century ・ Ming
A different vessel from the Jiajing sycee shown before: its two ends spread out like wings. The sycee was not a money whose shape the state fixed; its form changed with where it was cast and what it was for. The receiver tested its worth not by the shape but with scales and fineness. The museum label reads 'silver sycee, 8th year of Zhengde' (1513).
