5 Lira note from the earliest period of the Republic(obverse)
トルコ共和国中央銀行 / Public domain(Wikimedia Commons

A 5 lira note from the first series of banknotes of the Republic, which began to circulate on December 5, 1927. The text is in Ottoman script and the numerals are in French. As it was printed before the script reform of the following year, 1928, the new country identifies itself using the old script. This is a physical example of that time lag, when the country's official script changed before the script on the money in one's wallet.
