A large silver coin struck during the reign of Suleiman II (1687–91). It is an actual example of the attempt to create a domestic large silver coin from the same period as the new zolota of 1690 (six dirhams = approx. 19.2 grams, 60% silver). Scholarly opinion is divided on whether the name "kuruş" began in 1690 or 1703, and this text presents the matter without taking a definitive stance.
