½ Schilling silver coin (1925)
1925 ・ silver ・ 20th century ・ Vienna

One of the very first silver coins of the Schilling, which was introduced in 1925 at a rate of 10,000 Kronen. The determination to rebuild is evident in the decision to issue this new currency in silver, just after overcoming an economic avalanche. The obverse features the shield of the republic, while the reverse bears the words "Halb Schilling". It was the smallest standard-bearer of a hard currency known as the "Alpendollar".
