An illustration of two one-rupee silver coins of the same design. The 1862 coin is inscribed VICTORIA QUEEN, while the 1886 coin reads VICTORIA EMPRESS. In 1877, Victoria assumed the title Empress of India. From Queen to Empress—this change in the sovereign's title is directly attested to by the difference of a single word on the coin's face. The comparison itself is the exhibit, so all four faces are captured in a single image.
