Copper coin of Kanishka I (Moon God Mao)

A copper unit of Kanishka I. The source cites a diameter of 17 mm, a weight of 4.7 grams, and Mitchiner ACW 3161/65. On the obverse, the king, in nomadic attire, faces left, extending his right hand over a fire altar and holding a trident in his left. On the reverse stands the moon goddess Mao. The same king placed his own image on gold coins and deities on copper coins. The pantheon of gods appearing on Kushan coinage reflects the multitude of faiths encompassed by the empire.
