Srebrenik of Vladimir I

The earliest silver coin of Kievan Rus'. The coin face is engraved with a prince on a throne and a trident emblem. Minting began in the time of Vladimir I and had almost ceased by the beginning of the eleventh century. Later analysis has revealed specimens with low silver content, evidence of an overreach where coins called silver were in fact mostly copper. After this, the region entered a 200-year coinless period.
