A coin from 1997 that marks the return of the spear-wielding horseman, an image that had disappeared from coinage during the seventy years of the Soviet Union. The image that gave the kopek its name in 1535 is engraved once again on this small coin, 460 years later. At the horseman's feet is a small mint mark. Moscow and Saint Petersburg, the same two cities as 500 years ago, are still striking them today.
