State Credit Note 10 Rubles (1866)(obverse)
Unknown authorUnknown author / Public domain(Wikimedia Commons

A 10-ruble State Credit Note from 1866. It bears a portrait of Mikhail, the first emperor of the Romanov dynasty. After the failure of the Assignation Rubles, the credibility of paper money was refashioned under the guise of dynastic legitimacy. The large-format notes with portraits held different weights in different hands, from the money straps of the nobility to the gossip of the common people.
