A visitor's hand lifts a gold bar at the Bank of England Museum. Photographed on August 30, 2024. On September 12, 1919, the first Gold Fixing was held at New Court in London. A chronology records that representatives of the five members of the London Gold Market gathered and continued to set the price until buyers and sellers were balanced. According to the refinery's page, the House was an agent for the Bank of England and also held the position of ex-officio chairman of the gold market. It was bars like the one in this hand that were priced. The last Fixing hosted by the House was on May 4, 2004.
