The insurgents' coins were born not from a coining press, but from a mold. In Oaxaca, it is said that coins were initially made by casting, pouring molten metal into molds. The thickness was uneven, the edges were rough, and the quality was far from the neat finish of the royal mints. Nevertheless, these crude coins were essential for supporting the army and purchasing supplies. The issuance in Oaxaca is said to have lasted for a short period, until March 1814, when the royalists recaptured the city.
