British Trade Dollar

In 1895, Great Britain also entered this competition with the issuance of the British Trade Dollar. Struck in Bombay and Hong Kong, they were introduced into East Asian commerce. That even the British Empire went to the trouble of creating a special silver coin for Asian ports—was in itself the greatest proof of the strength of the Eagle Dollar. Even a country with a currency like the pound sterling had no choice but to compete with the weight of silver in these seas.
