One hundred trillion mark note

HUNDERT BILLIONEN MARK — one hundred trillion marks. It is the highest denomination note of the Reichsbank, printed at the end of a hyperinflation whose face values ran up through the million, the billion and the trillion (this piece is a specimen; the date printed on it is 15 February 1924). Wheelbarrows of notes, banknotes used as wallpaper, children building with bundles of them — the final point reached in an age when the three functions of money, exchange, measure and store, died one after another. Behind the miracle of the Rentenmark, the old mark ended its history at this order of magnitude.
