The Italian national side of the 2 euro bears Dante's profile as painted by Raphael. The 1 euro carries Leonardo's Vitruvian Man, the 10 cent Botticelli's Venus. Not emblems of the state, but memories of a civilisation: the faces on the coins quietly say what this peninsula offers the world.
