The twenty-franc silver coin of the Turin type (1929–1939), named for the engraver Pierre Turin. In 1928 Poincaré cut the gold content of the franc to one fifth of the old Germinal figure and fixed it there, buying stability. This is the everyday high-value silver of that thinned franc. On the face, Liberty; on the back, ears of wheat. The quantity of gold fell by eighty per cent, yet the face value, and trust in the franc, held unshaken for a time.
