The hundred-franc gold coin of Bazor (1935). On the face, a winged Liberty, cut by the engraver Lucien Bazor. On the back, wheat and olive and oak, and the date 1935. It is gold of the thinned kind, after Poincaré's cut to one fifth. France clung to the fortress of gold and sank alone and late into deflation, and the next year, 1936, the Popular Front let gold go at last. It was the last gold coin, struck just before the pillar of gold that had carried the franc since Germinal was taken away.
