One franc of Vichy

The one franc struck by the Vichy regime (1943). In place of the Republic's 'liberty, equality, fraternity' it is cut with 'work, family, fatherland'. The double-headed battle axe, the francisque, was Marshal Pétain's personal emblem and the unofficial badge of the regime. With metal short in wartime there was neither the silver of Germinal nor the gold of the napoléon, and on a light disc of base aluminium only the political slogan remains. ⚠ 'Work, family, fatherland' is the slogan of the Vichy regime, which went on collaborating with Germany; this light metal is testimony to an age in which money turned from a measure into propaganda.
