A tetradrachm of Lysimachos, King of Thrace, c. 297–281 BC. The obverse shows the deified Alexander with the horns of Ammon and a diadem; the reverse shows a seated Athena holding Nike, with the inscription 'ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ'. The horns represent the story from 331 BC when he was declared a 'son of a god' by the oracle of Ammon at Siwa. This type continued to be struck in places like Byzantion even after the death of Lysimachos. This piece, on loan from a private collection, was photographed at a special exhibition at the Glyptothek in Munich.
