Spanish Fury

スペインの猛威 — Phenomena

The tragedy in 1576 when the king's army, deprived of pay due to a suspension of payments, sacked Antwerp.

Netherlands The Scheldt was closed / Antwerp

The tragedy in 1576 when the army, deprived of pay due to the Spanish king's suspension of payments, sacked Antwerp. Known as the "Spanish Fury," the terror united the opposition, temporarily bringing together all seventeen provinces.

⚠ This is a textbook example of a chain reaction where a monetary incident (the suspension of payments) led to a political event (the union of the provinces).
