A medieval name derived from "thick coin." It was reintroduced as one-hundredth of a Schilling.

A name used since the Middle Ages, derived from "thick coin" (grossus). It spread as the Gros in France and the Groschen in German-speaking areas. In 20th-century Austria, it was reintroduced as the name for one-hundredth of a Schilling.

⚠ The names of coins do not die, they only sleep. It is not uncommon in this world for a medieval name to return on a modern small coin.
