The "Ore Mountains" on the border between Bohemia (modern-day Czech Republic) and Saxony. Around 1516, rich silver veins were discovered in St. Joachim's Valley, and in a few years the valley grew rapidly into a silver mining city.
⚠ The large silver coin struck here, the Joachimsthaler, is the origin of the names Thaler and, subsequently, dollar.
