Claims Supported by This Source

  1. Note at the end of the South Sea Bubble chapter: "The South Sea Bubble was, until the year 1845, the greatest example in British history of the infatuation of the people for commercial gambling. The first edition of this work was published a short time before the outbreak of the Great Railway Mania of that and the succeeding year."
  2. The main text only touches on the recurrence of speculation in 1826 and 1836, with no description of the Railway Mania itself (end of the main text).
