- Persons engaged in the money lending business must be registered with the Director-General of a Local Finance Bureau or a prefectural governor, and people are urged not to borrow from lenders whose registration cannot be confirmed.
- Some unregistered lenders use the words "Bank" or "Trust" in their trade names.
- Illegal lenders lure customers with phrases like "Low-interest loans," "OK even if you've been rejected elsewhere," and "Same-day loans."
How to read the verification levels. "Read Through" means the source was read in its entirety. "Bibliography & Abstract Read" means the bibliographic information and abstract were confirmed. "Via Course Material" means the source was referenced through the textbook or course text. The "Text Hash" is the SHA-256 of the main text from the publisher's page, excluding tags and whitespace, used to detect if the source has been modified.
