Claims Supported by This Source

  1. The Bank of Japan provides two types of settlement assets: banknotes (used by individuals) and BOJ current account deposits (used by financial institutions). Both are assets provided by the central bank with no credit risk.
  2. Interbank fund settlements are conducted through transfers of BOJ current account deposits (BOJ-NET).
