What is the JGB Book-Entry System?

- The JGB Book-Entry System is a multi-tiered structure consisting of JGB holders, direct participants (banks, securities companies), and the book-entry transfer institution (Bank of Japan), where rights to JGBs are transferred by book entry. Account transfers are processed through the JGB Services of BOJ-NET.
- Established in 1980. It was initially based on physical certificates deposited with the Bank of Japan, but it became paperless and transitioned to the current system with the enforcement of the Act on Book-Entry Transfer of Corporate Bonds, etc. in 2003.
- Currently, over 99.9% of JGB settlements are conducted through this system. There is also a JGB registration system.
- Operated under the authorization of Article 39, paragraph 1 of the Bank of Japan Act.
How to read the verification levels. "Read Through" means the source was read in its entirety. "Bibliography & Abstract Read" means the bibliographic information and abstract were confirmed. "Via Course Material" means the source was referenced through the textbook or course text. The "Text Hash" is the SHA-256 of the main text from the publisher's page, excluding tags and whitespace, used to detect if the source has been modified.
