Sangpyeong Tongbo (four denominations)
From 1678 ・ bronze ・ 17th century ・ Hojo, Hullyeon Dogam, and seven other government offices
A bronze coin test-minted in 1633 and officially adopted in 1678 (during the reign of King Sukjong). It was the first to achieve nationwide circulation in Korea. It was counted on a scale of 1 gwan = 10 ryang = 100 jeon = 1000 mun, and was minted simultaneously by seven government offices, including the Hojo, Sangpyeongcheong, and Hullyeon Dogam. The character on the reverse indicates the minting office. The photograph is an illustration of a set of four denominations: 1, 2, 5, and 100 mun.
