Banknotes from the Hwan era (plate)(obverse)
UnknownUnknown / Public domain(Wikimedia Commons

These Hwan notes were created by the February 1953 currency reform, which redenominated 100 Won to 1 Hwan. The portrait is of President Syngman Rhee. As no high-resolution, freely licensed images of individual notes are available, a composite image of multiple denominations is used to record the face of the era. On June 10, 1962, the Hwan was replaced by the Won at a rate of 10 Hwan to 1 Won, bringing its nine-year history to a close.
