Bir Milyon—a one million lira banknote. At the turn of the century, a million was not a large sum but a common denomination for daily shopping. On January 1, 2005, this face value became exactly one New Lira. It is a prime example of the denominations eliminated in the great "cleanup" that removed six zeros.
