1 Anna of Hyderabad
AH 1358 (1939) ・ nickel ・ 20th century ・ Princely State of Hyderabad

One Anna from the Princely State of Hyderabad, dated AH 1358, in copper-nickel. The one rupee coin struck by the same state about twenty years earlier was made of silver. Low-denomination coins are the first to abandon silver for base metals. The anna, a unit equivalent to one-sixteenth of a rupee, was used for daily transactions. Precious metals disappear first from the most frequently handled coins.
