2 Naye Paise (1957)

A 2 naya paisa coin from 1957. The source states it is made of copper-nickel, is scalloped, has a diameter of 18 mm, a weight of 2.95 grams, and a mintage of 1,826,326,000. In this year, India abandoned its traditional system of 1 rupee = 16 annas = 64 pice. The new system was 1 rupee = 100 paisa. "Naya" in "naya paisa" means "new." For a time, the coins themselves were called "new" to distinguish them from the old paisa. The obverse features the national emblem and country name, while the reverse shows only the denomination and year.
