Kacha's Dinar

A gold dinar of the Gupta dynasty from the 4th century, held by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The coin bears the name Kacha. It is uncertain which member of the Gupta royal family this person was. Some theories suggest it is an alternative name for Samudragupta, while others propose he was a different king; there is little evidence beyond the coinage itself. The Gupta kings began striking their own gold coins based on the dinar standard inherited from the Kushans. The name survived, but the identity was lost.
