1957 ・ paper ・ 20th century ・ Republic of India
An original notice announcing the new currency effective from April 1, 1957. The title reads "India's New Currency". It includes a printed conversion table from annas to naye paise and states that for the time being, payments could be made in either the old or new currency. At the transition from the system of one rupee = sixteen annas to a decimal system, what people had on hand was not the coins themselves, but this piece of paper.
