One thousand Rentenmark note

Rentenbankschein — a note of the Rentenbank. In November 1923 a new currency bundled the old paper together again at one Rentenmark = one trillion Papiermark; this is its 1000-mark note. The backing is not gold. It was a mortgage laid on the farmland and industrial assets of the whole country — a promise of the national soil, so to speak. Issue was held down strictly, and a ceiling was set on lending to the government. When the promise 'we will print no more' was believed, paper became money again. This is the very paper of the settlement called the miracle of the Rentenmark.
