The Lombard gold tremissis began as a faithful copy of Byzantine coin. By the reign of this king, Cunincpert, it bears the king's own name and a figure of Victory. To begin by copying and end by naming oneself—the typical road a conqueror takes to money of his own, told by a single gold coin.
