Piastra of Naples
1805 ・ silver ・ 19th century ・ Naples

The great silver piastra of Naples was worth 120 grana. This piece was struck in 1805 under Ferdinand IV. It is the south's entry in the century of the thaler—and a representative of the coins fated, half a century later, to be called in with unification and vanish into the crucible, replaced by the lira.
