Helmeted Roma on the obverse, a chariot on the reverse. Born in the depths of the war with Hannibal, the denarius remained the standard silver of the Mediterranean world for roughly five hundred years. Minting was overseen by the tresviri monetales, young aristocrats, and this piece too carries its issuer's mark.
