Moidore gold coin

Properly moeda de ouro—"coin of gold". Struck from Brazilian gold, it crossed to England in quantity in exchange for wine, was anglicised as moidore, and even became an everyday unit of reckoning there. This piece too is an English find. Coins do not stay where they are struck: gold kept flowing toward the side the trade balance favoured.
